Hi friends! Thanks for making your way over to my little corner of the internet here. I’m Carina, and The Fashion Student is a blog about well…being a fashion student.

I was born in Taiwan (I can never run for President, basically), raised in Connecticut (Yes, it was as white and WASP-y as you’re imagining right now), and currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I like procrastinating, Netflix binges, and junk food. Birds freak me out and I have an irrational fear of accidentally suffocating in a plastic bag. Sometimes I think about how unfair it is that french bulldogs exist in the world unattached to myself. I compulsively Wikipedia marine biology and troll IMDB message boards when left unattended.

I started this blog in May 2012. Fed up with seeing the same frat party photos on my Facebook newsfeed, I wanted a way to document the unique experience of forgoing the typical American college experience in lieu of a highly specialized fashion school in NYC. I wanted a place to freely inject humor and un-apologetically ramble on about how I style outfits (read: talk about myself). Since starting this blog, I have been offered some amazing opportunities that I never thought I would be able to have. From working with brands I’ve loved since high school, to attending New York Fashion Week, to receiving a physical copy of my first freelance paycheck, there have been too many moments where I’ve just had to pinch myself. I’m so happy to share my experiences and perspective with you all and am eternally grateful and thankful for you all. I hope you enjoy my ramblings and of course, feel free to contact me at [email protected] I’m always down to talk.

I have years of blogging experience under my belt
